For years, the trade-off with wireless charging was convenience in exchange for waiting longer. Qi2 25W narrows that gap to the point where, for a quick top-up, you may not even notice the difference wireless and wired charging.

There's a bigger story behind the number, too. Before this standard, several phone makers had built their own proprietary fast wireless charging systems. They worked, but only with the right matching charger from the same brand, and they didn't play well with anyone else's gear. 

Qi2 25W is the first standard to make genuinely fast wireless charging something that works across brands, the way a standard is supposed to. Which devices support Qi2 25W

Support is rolling out steadily. Here's where things stand today:

• Apple's iPhone 17 lineup, whose published specifications list Qi2 charging up to 25W
• iPhone 16 can do 25W wirelessly when using a 30W adapter and running ios 26 or higher
• Google's Pixel 10 Pro XL

• Samsung's Galaxy S25 series and S26 series support Qi2 but have no magnets inside the phone, so they need a Qi2 Ready case for the snap-on alignment. With a Qi2 Ready 25W case, these phones can reach the full 25W too, they just need the case to do it.

Looking ahead, we can expect more Android phones to adopt the standard with magnets built in. 

The charger side has moved quickly too. Belkin was among the first to earn Qi2 25W certification. Today there are already hundreds of Qi2 25W chargers on the market, developed by WPC members.

In CNN's testing of 17 wireless chargers, the top pick was a 25W Qi2 model, chosen in part for posting some of the fastest refill times in the group while staying cool under load.
